All the ICE makers are transitioning to the EV market, are targeting their own loyal customers who want an EV, and will continue to make profits from their ICE vehicles for the next 20 years. Tesla has dominated the EV market for over 10 years, currently has the best technology and charging infrastructure and a large ( profitable) loyal fanbase. Most of Ford's EV sales & preorders are to Ford ICE owners wanted an EV. Most of Tesla's Cybertruck preorders are Tesla EV owners wanting the latest greatest EV. All of the new EV makers are trailing Tesla, but they will quickly catch up with respect to battery, motor & self driving tech ... targeting their loyal customer base ... while still making money from their ICE vehicles. Tesla is no longer the only choice for a new EV owner. Yes, Tesla still has the superior products & services, but it is no longer the only option. Ford F150 owners wanting an EV truck now have the option of the Cybertruck, Ford Lighning, Rivian, Hummer etc. Any guess which MAKE will likely be picked? lol.

The cybertruk looks like a Mars landrover, not a real truck. Dare to be different and pay the price IMO. Elon needs to re-think his truck. Throw it away and start over. Or, just forget the truck and make a VAN (you know, one that actually looks like a van since his truck does not look like a truck).

25% support for Cybertruck is not bad, but considering Tesla fans keep telling us Tesla is lightyears ahead of everyone else, it is pretty quick that the competition has become real competition.

It seems to me that the cybertruck won't be a thing for at least a year and a half, probably two. As well, the high end models will be first obviously so that may add even more time until widespread availability. So sure, 1,000,000 preorders is great, even the more realistic 500,000 as stated in the video, but it will be many years before we see those delivered on. The unfortunate side effect of that will almost certainly be even less of the preorders resulting in final orders. Tesla's leg up is going to be its charging network, battery supply chain, unibody design using the Italian machine. Until one of the big 3 or a Japanese brand can sabotage their current hold on any one of those things, Tesla will remain on top.

The real question is... at what point do states start jacking up registration for electric vehicles. They are losing the gas tax. Take my state for example. The gas tax is 26.2 cents a gallon. The newest study i could find was 2015 which said on average drivers use 656 gallons per driver. Thats $171.87 per driver (lost gas tax). They will get their money so your registration will eventually cost. $35.75 (vehicle registration) plus $171.87 (lost gas tax) which is about $207.

I'll say that once some of these other companies have legitimate vehicles (e.g. BMW. Mercedes, etc) then Tesla needs to be worried. I don't think Ford and Tesla really "compete" beyond the fact they are both electric. I have had a few Teslas but recently drove a BMW x6 higher end vehicle and it is significantly better in most aspects. The interior, finish, quality, etc far outpaces Tesla and really does show that Tesla isn't truly a luxury car. Yeah it's better than Toyota/Honda but just not there with BMW. Tesla has the advantage of early adopters but it may ultimately become a "standard" / mid range segment electric vehicle in the future if it doesn't upgrade their interiors, style, etc.

The main issue that even you seem to overlook is that FORD are only planning on manufacturing 50,000 of that F 150 and another mind blowing 50,000 of the Mustang Mach E. WTF?? So whom do you suspect will be making headway into selling EV's in any market? Well I am certain that FORD or GM won't have the battery manufacturing capacity to make more cars. After all there is simply put not enough world wide resources available now is there? Who is left to take up the slack? VW? Are you serious, they also have battery constraints and manufacturing is being hobbled by material availability. TESLA have little to worry about, as Sandy Munro indicated several years ago. Legacy automakers should have taken this EV revolution more seriously back then when they might have had a chance to play catch up. Now they are all so far behind that even the Chinese are unable to make a dent in the TESLA war machine. Good luck boys...

Ford F150 lighting is going to kill the cyber truck. Just keeping it real! The f150 maybe boring looking but it doesn't change its design structure. Meaning you can take anything off of your old F150 ICE truck and transfer it to the new F150 lighting without any issue. Do you know how many F150 owners have products that they can take out of the old trucks and put in the new one? Millions! And they sell more than a million damn near every year for the last 44 years. And the aftermarket products alone will is enough to keep the F150 lighting ahead.

You quoted "pre-order" numbers for the e F150 and the Cybertruck. Is a pre-order a contract to purchase or just a refundable reservation? If the latter is true, it is a pointless statistic. I am curious how anybody can reach a buying decision on all these electric trucks and cars since most are not even available to see in person, let alone buy one. I understand the excitement, but why is it unreasonable to wait until they hit the market. Many of the most hyped EV's haven't even released their final pricing yet.

Ford has 3000 dealers and service and fairly priced parts near most people. I can see the dealers offer free charging for Fords. Other services will be offered while charging. I can see free coffee donuts popcorn in a lounge room. I can see car upgrade specials like new rims and tires while you charge. I think we will see changes at the dealership. The dealers will play hard ball with non-dealership companies. If you don't have great service you will have big problems.

Tesla has no real competition ( yet ) Ford is facing bankruptcy in the coming decade together with other companies, they have to spend so much money into their EV cars they are making almost or even negative profits on them. The costs.. - Advertising - Research en development Tesla have no advertising costs. This truck had alot of advertising, Tesla got a free giga factory instead if you compare the spending towards advertising. Price of ford's and other companies EV... Cost more and performance is less for it's price when you compare it with a Tesla. When tesla release it's cheaper model in the $20,000 then it's almost gameover. Why pay alot more for a car if the performance is way less for it's price. the transition from gas/diesel to EV costs so much money, new EV companies don't have the baggage of bieng a old company car. 2 companies that might compete a little with Tesla are General moters and volkswagen, they are still profitable and are doing not that bad. But still transition will be very hard for them.

  • Andrew Brown

The problem Tesla has is the lower part of the market the $25000 car model 2 will supposedly take over the market, but cars right now are selling for way less than that, cars that do the job well enough for the low cost. I mean i bought a high luxury 7 seater ford that when new was £32 000 plus factory fitted extras that it has. It was 8 years old when i bought it and is now 12 years old, it is super reliable and not too bad on fuel consumption.....I paid , with the computer chip replacement and a full ford top service £6000. I am loving the comfort the quiet drive the power and all the little extras it has. Serviced every two years and no issues that need attention. I looked at a Tesla £19000, just as i am writing i am checking again.....damaged but repairable , probably for ten to 15 thousand repairs ...2016 model, then there is no running tesla for under 28000 even a 12 year old one.....and do not think about the family car the model x both i saw were 500 under 80 000 for a 4-year-old car.

Many pickup trucks are owned by small landscaping companies. Such companies would likely lean toward traditionally shaped trucks for compatibility with racks and side hatch access type bins. More important is that such businesses would likely replace at opportune moments which is a conflict with preordering. For example, if the year has a fair bit of profit, it is better to invest that into equipment expenses than to get taxed on it.

Tesla is being ignorant by removing features from their cars. Only benefit that Tesla had over other EV's was that Tesla's charging network was solid. But now you can find CCS charger everywhere where Tesla chargers are. So Tesla is going to loose market cause big reliable car brand like Toyota are coming in the market. They need to be prepare and focus on more innovation rather than tweeting regarding dogecoin.

💥💥💥 I'm not sure why people are so worried about Tesla? So they lost Norway last month ... big deal. China sales declined from March to April, but Tesla doesn't need, or even want China. Cali is big on the Ford Mustang Mach E, but that's ok as well. Telsa has the Roadster coming out in a few years that will go from 0 to 60 in about a second, so they will be ok. See ... all is good! 💥💥💥

Noticing how the perspective on this and some other news shows is shifting. As the competitors come online, the "point" has obviously been tipped, and Tesla is becoming one of the competitors,. albeit the original in history. Next I can even see Elon shifting his attention to Energy, tunnels and Mars.

The point is the competitors are producing worse vehicles that cost more plus they have no supercharger network nor software chops and they don’t have the batteries. Tesla’s next iterations when Berlin and Texas come on line are going to cheaper, lighter and have longer range. Tesla attracts all the talent too. The rest sell at a loss and destroy their own ice market and they aren’t going to mount much of a challenge, they will simply broaden the market for Tesla.

In a blackout, what do you need? A fridge, maybe freezer? Smartphone for information? Maybe a TV for the same? Lighting? (Led, rechargeable?) An extension lead could provide all than from a Cybertruck, or a Rivian. It's a "what if" red herring. Personally, the extra 100-200 miles on the Rivian/ CT would be my priority to get out of the area.

All you'all are missing the entire point about where vehicles are going. Do research on solid state batteries, and then wait three years, and buy cars with 4x faster recharge rates, and 600 mile ranges.

  • Roger Starkey

    Roger Starkey

    Månad sedan

You seem to miss the point that if (!) a solid state cell arrives, first they (whoever) still have to make it (so not "3 years") then it has to be affordable. Next, IF they make a car with "4× charge rates" every minute shaved off means LESS range is needed. 1) Outrange the driver. 2) Charge faster than the driver "empties" You'll see 250-300 mile range with 5-10 minute charging...... Faster than a driver can get to and from "facilities" (with washed hands) Meanwhile, we have the "800v cars" coming. Now, the expensive Germans, soon the cheaper Koreans which will give 70% in less than 20 minutes. A well known Norwegian has trouble beating these cars when trying to take "normal" (required) breaks on a journey. They simply need to be "sufficient" not overkill.

Once again we have to reiterate this... Until the Berlin factory starts producing, the Tesla cars are shipped from Fremont once a quarter, so some months the deliveries will be almost non-existent, so Ford being #1 for a month means nothing, you have to look at it by quarter or the whole year to be able to compare appropriately. I test drove the base model of Mache-E yesterday in Southern California. Wasn't impressed. The car is showy on the outside but feels like jeep interior with a big screen on the inside. When i saw that central volume knob in a video i thought I would like it, but the materials used for it seem cheap & i'd much prefer a slide bar on the screen. The ride was bumpy & i was disappointed to hear & feel that it had coil springs (Isn't that technology obsolete now?) BUT the Tesla Model Y long distance dual motor is really bumpy as well, but the turns & stops are smooth. In terms of tech, Tesla beats Ford outright. Ford just converted most basic controls into a display screen, Tesla added much more tech, Ai, fun stuff etc.

Yes, our test drive as disappointing too. We ordered the Y and took delivery a few days ago. Absolutely flawless -- none of the fit and finish issues people have complained about. We couldn't find a single thing wrong with the car. It's a stiff suspension, but not uncomfortable, and the handling is fantastic. The Mach-E felt squishy in comparison.

Some clarification about Norway's Tesla sales: They always push last month of the quarter, so they are expected to win june, as they won march. They have already sold almost as many model 3's in june as in the whole of april and May (Should pass within Tuesday or wednesday). This is why it is important to look at quarter sales or even better yearly sales, they are much more accurate. Also, the model Y can't come early enough, there are so many people who have wanted that car but have opted for Mustang Mach-E, ID.4, or skoda Enyaq because of the slowness of model Y in Europe :/

Alright, some reality(as concerns electric pickup trucks) needs to be interjected into this comments section. For one, serious pickup users (like independent contractors) are not going to be buying these things. This is in part due to charge and range and the fact that using them in the real world for real work makes their 'range' go way down and also implicates the current crappy charging times and charging infrastructure. Here's an anonymous comment I saw on another forum when discussing the all electric F 150 : "The funny selling point of “You can even use it to power your tools” should make people scratch their heads, but it won’t. Maybe, but this last year proved the livestock are as stupid as their mammalian brethren, so I don’t hold out much hope. Drive the truck 50 miles (maybe 30 even) to a site, unload, plug in a table saw, battery chargers for drills, radio, air compressor, etc… Sounds great. Except when you pack up the site, jump in the truck, and realize the battery is down to 20 miles of range left because you ran the site off the battery and drained it. Oops. I haven’t looked because I think the truck is idiotic, but is the range touted at fully loaded (all seats filled with your average weight of a laborer, bed 1/2-3/4 loaded with equipment, trunk space filled with ‘other stuff’ that would normally be jammed in the cab) or a guesstimate based on one person? We’re what, 130, 140 years since the first electric cars rolled down a road and the problem is still the physics of a battery which, unless someone discovers a new way to store and transport electricity, will continue to be a problem with EV’s for the foreseeable future."

Do your tools run a constant total of 2kw every minute of the work day? If they did (they won't) you MIGHT be using 24 kWh, or about 20 % of the mid range Cybertruck battery, which would leave you with 150 miles each way. Of course, if you carry a load, you'll get more regen downhill, which might help.
